Personal Shopper
I personally love walking around the mall and shopping, that's why I feel becoming someone's personal shopper would be the best job for me! As a personal shopper it is my responsibility to help run out to supermarkets or grocery stores to buy any necessities and groceries. Other than running errands at the supermarket, I can also be a personal stylist! Since I adore fashion and clothes, this job is suitable for me. Just like a wedding planner but instead an outfit planner I can help my customers choose the perfect outfit to any event or even daily wear. My target customers are most likely mothers because they are the most busiest having to take care of their children, do chores and cook. My target market is mainly leaning towards woman and elderly woman mostly because females always need to shop. I will be a provide convenience and satisfaction. My responsibility to is help my customers do any of their shopping, anything that has to do with shopping, I will do! I will be these ladies personal shoppers for as many as times as they need for
$50 a day. However if it's just a quick stop to the grocery store it will only be $20. Just like a friend, I will be available for them anytime, just one call away. To advertise, I will start by making business cards and handing them out to my friends as well as their mothers and grandmothers! Also advertising my service online, posting it up on websites or maybe even Facebook. This is a great venture idea because not only does it barely cost any operation money, all it takes is my time and effort to get it going. I'll be making a reasonable amount of money while helping out mothers and elderly woman who need a shopping assistant.
Boot Protection
I always find myself walking in the rain and minutes later my boots will be soaking wet for the entire day. That's why I want to create plastic socks! These are plastic bags that are shaped like socks and can be worn inside boots to protect your actual socks from getting wet. To make these handy socks, I will first need to find a large amount of plastic bag like material and then take the time to cut out and sew these pairs of socks. They are long lasting, one size fits all and are made in the best quality plastic and strong threads. They will be packed in cute pouches, 2 pairs for $5 or 5 pairs for $10. Making the product and the packing will take time however won't be that costly because many cheap arts and crafts materials can be found at Michael's or even Diaso! My target market would be more towards girls and women because we always wear boots during the winter and rainy days. To advertise my product I will start by posting it up Facebook as well as introducing it to my friends. Customers may contact me through email or calling and customers will have to do a face trade with me at any location they want to meet up. Face trading means meeting up with my customers at a specific location and then selling my product to and receiving money from my customers. I think this is a good idea because it is convenient and is very useful. I'm sure everyone experiences the wet socks during a rainy day like me, that's why I know for sure my business will be successful!
Personal Shopper
ReplyDeletePeronally I think there is a demand of personal shopper in the market; however, the demand of this service will not be that high. The reason for me to think that way is the price of hiring a personal shopper is too expensive. 50 dollar is way too much because many people can buy alot of things with 50 dollar. I believed that people would rather spend around an hour to go to the mall, instead of paying another personal shopper for an extra of 50 dollar. I think the price of personal shopper can be lower in order to attract more customers.
Boot protection
I do not think there will be a market for the plastic socks. What if the plastic socks get wet after customers walk in the rain? Do they have to take off their boots, and then take off their plastic socks, wear their boots again? I think thats not what everyone would want to do. And also there is a great competition for the plastis socks, which is rain boots. If wearing a plastic socks involved so many steps, i believed that people would rather wear their rain boots. Although rain boots might look uglier than boots, people are more likely to choose to wear the rain boots instead of plastic socks.

I like the idea of personal shopper especially how it will absolutely help mothers since they don't always have free time. I also think that the amount you sell your service is too high because if they were to ask you to run to the grocery store to buy a jug of milk for $5, but you charge them $20, it would be a bad deal for them.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd idea is very interesting because I wouldn't really imagine anyone creating plastic socks. I really like how you would advertise it through facebook because it's very common fo people to use it and also internet has really became a trend. Though this idea may be unique, would it be comfortable to wear since it's made from plastic bags?

I personally don't like the idea of the personal shopper because the price is too high. The service is quite handy if needed. For example, as a working or stay at home mother, wouldn't you want to save as much money as you could. $50 is quite a price to pay for a stop at the grocery store. I think this service should be aimed more at the high class people.
ReplyDeleteI like the second idea because it seems quite useful. It would be very interesting to see how sales are as some people prefer comfort over convenience? I'm not quite sure how many people would want to put a plastic sock around their regular sock, but very cool idea!
I love the idea of having a personal shopper. Although it leans toward people who have the money, it would be an ideal style spotter too. With the younger generation market, this would not appeal to them because 1) it would be too expensive for regular use 2) their "personal shoppers" or opinion givers could just be their friends.
ReplyDeleteFrom experience, I know that it's disgusting when my feet get wet from the rain soaking through my shoes so I am all for having boot protection. With the continuous cycles of rain in Vancouver, this could really appeal to a general market (those who live in Vancouver). However, if it is just plastic bags, why don't people just wear normal plastic bags in their shoes?
I like your personal shopper idea because there are people out there in need of stylists, and also people who don't have time to shop for their own wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteI also really like your boot protection idea because I, for one, hate walking in the rain with wet socks!
The personal shopper idea sounds like a great plan, however the prices do seem a bit high. But even if profits will not be as potentially high, you seem to enjoy running the business which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the boot protection idea, if you plan on making plastic socks to prevent your feet from getting wet, how is that protecting the boots?
In terms of a personal shopper, the concept is there however realistically, pricing is not. Groceries could range alot in pricing but to pretty much charge straight up 50-100% of how much the actual groceries would cost on-top of that is a bit much.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of boot protection, it's pretty much an extra layer of socks, however the effort may be a bit much to actually manufacturer these socks.

For the personal shopper idea, I think it’s a good idea but the prices you are setting are way too high. I don’t think most people will want this service if the price is like $50 per day, people will rather do it themselves.
ReplyDeleteI really like the plastic socks idea, but I don’t think it will be successful because this will only work in fall and winter. People probably won’t buy the socks because if their socks are wet, all they need to do is to bring a extra pair of socks and change into it.

The personal shopper idea might be a bit difficult because it's quite pricey. Although it is clever because there's people who are lazy or don't really like to shop.
ReplyDeleteYour boot protection program is really creative but it sounds a bit silly. I don't think this business would be successful because you can always buy rainboots.
From my experience shopping is a pain the ass because of all the effort put in into walking around buying all your products you need. A personal shopper appears to be highly profitable since I believe there are many who finds it annoying when you run out of your products.
ReplyDeleteThe second idea is quite brilliant because it will attract many consumers. Your idea is quite unique compared to other competitors. Overall I can see this venture idea go very far because it is lacks competition. Some problems are start up costs.
You do seem suitable for such a job as being a personal shopper and it seems like you have already planned out quite a bit of what you are going to do but I was just wondering how much time you are willing to put in? And how many clients are you going to have? Because a personal shopper of one that you described would seem like a person who works for whenever the client is awake, in other words for most of the day or even the whole day.
ReplyDeleteThe water proof sock idea is very creative! But I think that may be very difficult to manage on your own because as you mentioned making the socks take time and having to purchase the materials may end up being very expensive.
Overall, I think you have really creative ideas but I’m curious in how you’re going to carry on with such demanding jobs. Good luck with your venture Cathy! :)
